Waiver Option

Stipend in Lieu of Medical Benefits

Eligible employees may elect to waive the District’s medical and/or dental coverage and receive a stipend in lieu of enrollment. Employees who are covered under another health insurance plan may qualify for this option.

The stipend is generally issued no later than June 30 of the applicable school year and is subject to standard payroll taxes.

Waiver Requirements

To waive coverage and receive the stipend, employees must:

  • Complete the required Stipend in Lieu of Medical Benefits Form; and

  • Submit proof of alternate health insurance coverage.

The waiver form must be completed annually during the District’s Open Enrollment period. Stipend amounts are established in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

For newly hired employees who elect the waiver, stipend payments will be prorated based on the employee’s date of hire.

Re-Enrollment in District Coverage

Employees who previously waived coverage may re-enroll in the District’s health plan:

  • During the annual Open Enrollment period; or

  • Upon experiencing a qualifying life event, as defined in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Employees should consult their CBA for specific examples and eligibility criteria related to qualifying life events.
