Employee Health Benefits

The Colts Neck Township School District Employee Health Benefits webpage provides current, comprehensive information regarding the medical, prescription, dental, and vision benefits available to eligible staff members. Medical and Prescription Coverage

Effective January 1, 2026, the District transitioned to a self-funded health benefits model administered by Health Plans, Inc. (HPI). Medical benefits are provided thrugh the Cigna provider network and prescription benefits are provided through ExpressScripts.

Dental and Vision Coverage

Dental and vision benefits continue to be administered through Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.

Eligibility

Health benefits are available to all full-time employees. An employee is considered full-time if they are regularly scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more.

  • Employees whose start date is September 1 receive coverage effective immediately.

  • Employees hired after September 1 are subject to a 60-day waiting period before coverage becomes effective.

Employee Contributions

Pursuant to Chapter 78, P.L. 2011 (New Jersey law), employees are required to contribute toward the cost of medical and prescription coverage. Contribution amounts are determined in accordance with the salary-based contribution schedules established by the State of New Jersey.

At present, all employees contribute at Tier “Year 4.” Payroll deductions for health benefit contributions are made on a pre-tax basis.

Plan Enrollment Requirements (Chapter 44)

Employees hired on or after July 1, 2020 are required to enroll in either the New Jersey Educators Health Plan (NJEHP) or the Garden State Health Plan (GSHP).

Employees hired prior to July 1, 2020 may elect to enroll in the NJEHP, GSHP, or their collectively bargained health plan during annual open enrollment periods offered by the District.
