"Be yourself - everyone else is already taken."
Oscar Wilde

Philosophy: "I believe that all children can learn and grow by finding their learning styles and focusing on those strengths." Technology is not meant to be taught in a vacuum; it is a tool that provides a user with access to information and ways to share that knowledge with others.

I look forward again to working with the faculty, staff, students and parents of Conover Elementary School. Please check this site frequently for updates, project information, and articles.

As I find new and interesting websites I will add them to the parent page on my site. Please click on the Parent link to the left to access these sites. UPDATED: October, 2011.

What's new for the 2011-2012 School Year

For this school year, our focus on technology tools will include social studies topics.  Each marking period will highlight a different topic or topics that include core curriculum social studies standards.  For the months of May and June:

Grade 3:

Standard 6.1.3.b

*Using Inspiration 8 to review body systems
*Interactive websites

Grade 4:

Standard 6.1.3.b

*Using Inspiration 8 to review science terms
*Creating a game on PowerPoint
*Creating Queries with database

Grade 5:

Standard 6.1.3.b

*using a Wiki to record observations
*using Google Earth to find my parrot!

Students will have scheduled time in the lab once a week. All grade levels are trained in keyboarding, internet research, and the use of different software. Grades three through five use Type to Learn3, MS Word, Power Point, Excel, Inspiration, and Publisher.  We also use 21st Century skills including Google Maps and Google Earth.

Each year the PTO provides Computer Parent Volunteers, a program that encourages parents to come into the lab and work with the students on different projects. Click on the link to the left for more information.  Can't volunteer when your child's class is in computers?  Feel free to volunteer when ever I have a class scheduled. :)
